I often use the terms Ends and Means when working with boards, from the work of John Carver. He talks about Boards knowing the Ends they exist for, and management using whatever Means (without breaking the law or violating board policy) to get there. Such thinking has often brought clarity to Boards. That is what I enjoy doing.
